II Seminar: Business Synergies Argentina, Spain & UK
May 02, 2025II Seminar: Business Synergies between Argentina, Spain and the UK
On 29 and 30 April 2025, London hosted the second edition of the Seminar on Business Synergies between Argentina, Spain and the United Kingdom — a two-day programme co-organised by the British Argentine Chamber of Commerce and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom, with support from the embassies of all three countries.
The event brought together business leaders, investors, policymakers and legal experts to explore the commercial opportunities that exist at the intersection of three economies with deep historical, cultural and financial ties. As Argentina continues to open to international investment and reshape its regulatory landscape, the case for coordinated British and Spanish engagement has never been stronger.
Tuesday 29 April: Reception at the Spanish Ambassador's Residence
The seminar opened at the Spanish Ambassador's Residence with remarks from three senior diplomatic figures: Gonzalo García Andrés, Trade Secretary at the Spanish Embassy in London; H.E. Mariana Plaza, Ambassador of Argentina to the United Kingdom; and H.E. Kirsty Hayes, British Ambassador to Argentina. Welcoming remarks followed from Mónica Fernández-Mejuto, Vice-President of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom, BACC Chairman Javier Álvarez, and Fabian Hamilton MP, British Trade Envoy for the Southern Cone of Latin America.
The centrepiece of the evening was a panel discussion moderated by Melissa de Oliveira of Rimkus, which brought together practitioners currently active in the Argentina-Spain-UK business triangle. Panellists included Hugo Bruzone of Bruchou & Funes de Rioja, Jonathan Molyneux of ERM Global, German Beckmann of Harbour Energy, Indalecio Videla of Andina Energy, and Juliana Nobrega of Santander Corporate & Commercial. Their discussion ranged across case studies, financing tools for cross-border trade, and the evolving geopolitical context shaping business decisions in the region.
The formal programme was followed by a cocktail reception featuring Spanish tapas and Argentine wine, and a private business dinner at Gaucho Tower Bridge by invitation.
Wednesday 30 April: Business Workshop at Meliá White House
The second day moved to a more focused, working format. A by-invitation business workshop — capped at 40 attendees — opened with a framework presentation on Argentina's Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI), delivered by Hugo Bruzone of Bruchou & Funes de Rioja. RIGI represents one of the most significant shifts in Argentina's investment climate in years, and the session gave participants a practical grounding in how to structure and initiate projects within the new framework.
A roundtable discussion followed, moderated by Alfredo Fierro MBE, Director of Trade and Investment at the British Embassy in Buenos Aires, with contributions from ERM (Marcos Gallego and Jonathan Molyneux), Bruchou & Funes de Rioja (Hugo Bruzone and Javier Lozada) and Harbour Energy (German Beckmann). The morning concluded with a networking lunch.
The Sectors at the Heart of the Discussion
Across both days, three themes dominated the conversation. Energy and renewables — particularly Argentina's solar potential and the growing momentum behind LNG — drew significant interest from British and Spanish companies looking to deploy capital and expertise. Mining and critical minerals, including lithium, emerged as a natural area for trilateral collaboration given the complementary strengths each country brings. And bilateral investment more broadly: how British and Spanish companies, with their deep networks, technical knowledge and access to capital, can form joint alliances to unlock Argentina's considerable commercial potential.
An Institutional Framework for the Future
The seminar was supported by the embassies of Argentina, Spain and the United Kingdom in both London and their respective capitals, as well as by British Expertise and a strong group of private sector sponsors including Balanz, ERM, Integra Capital, Rimkus, DRC PRC and Andina. Special thanks were extended to Gaucho, Gualtallary Wines and Mahou San Miguel.
The BACC was proud to co-organise this event alongside the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom. The Argentina-Spain-UK triangle represents a genuinely distinctive opportunity — and seminars like this one are how that opportunity becomes action.
