New Horizons: Argentina, Asia, and the UK at the Asia Polo Cup International Weekend

The British Argentine Chamber of Commerce is always looking for new ways to build meaningful business connections — and this week brought an exciting first: a collaboration with the Sen Group's Asia Cup Polo International Weekend, bringing together the BACC's network with a new set of partners across Asia, in an evening that explored the surprising depth of what Argentina, Asia, and the United Kingdom have to offer one another.

The event was hosted at the Argentine Residence in London, courtesy of the Embassy of Argentina in the United Kingdom — a fitting venue for a conversation that spanned three continents.

Opening Remarks

The evening opened with welcoming remarks from three voices that together reflected the breadth of the occasion.

H.E. Ambassador Mariana Plaza set the scene, underlining Argentina's growing international profile and the Embassy's commitment to facilitating connections that go beyond the traditional UK-Argentine axis.

Neil Sen, Founder of the Sen Group, spoke to the vision behind the Asia Cup Polo International Weekend — an event that uses polo as a platform for bringing together business communities across Asia and beyond, and that has grown into one of the most distinctive intersection points of sport, culture, and commerce in the international calendar.

Ing. Javier Alvarez, Chairman of the BACC, welcomed the collaboration as a natural extension of the Chamber's mission — and a reminder that the opportunity Argentina presents is not limited to any one geography.

Keynote: Argentina, Asia, and the UK Through the Lens of Trade and Commodities

The keynote address was delivered by Raju Daswani, CEO of Fastmarkets — and it proved to be one of the most stimulating framings of Argentina's international opportunity in recent memory.

Daswani drew together three distinct but deeply interconnected worlds: polo as a shared cultural language between Argentina and Asia; and the far weightier commercial flows of food, energy, and critical minerals that bind the same three geographies together.

The argument was compelling in its clarity. Argentina has an extraordinary amount to offer: agricultural abundance, energy resources, and a critical minerals endowment that the world is only beginning to fully appreciate. Asia — with its enormous and growing appetite for precisely those commodities — represents a natural counterpart. And the United Kingdom, positioned as it is as a global hub for capital markets, risk management, and trusted market infrastructure, is uniquely placed to play a facilitating role in connecting the two.

Transparent pricing and well-functioning markets, Daswani noted, are not merely technical mechanisms — they are the foundations of trade, investment, and economic confidence. And it all starts with effective networking: bringing the right people into the same room, in the right setting, and letting the conversations flow from there.

A New Direction for the BACC's Business Synergies Series

For the BACC, this evening marked something genuinely new — the opening of an Asian dimension to the Chamber's business synergies work. The UK has long been the natural anchor for Argentine business in Europe; but the argument that London's role as a global financial centre makes it equally relevant to Argentina's commercial relationships with Asia is one that deserves more attention, and one the BACC is keen to explore further.

Thank You

Our sincere thanks to H.E. Ambassador Mariana Plaza and the Embassy of Argentina in the UK for hosting the evening at the Argentine Residence, to Neil Sen and the Sen Group for the collaboration, and to Raju Daswani for a keynote that left the room with a great deal to think about.

We look forward to continuing to build on this new direction — and to welcoming our Asian partners into the BACC's growing network.
